The Society of Independent Directors (SID) is committed to supporting the continuous professional development of its members in alignment with statutory responsibilities, governance expectations, and evolving boardroom practices.

SID’s member development initiatives are designed to enhance preparedness, judgment, and ethical decision-making without substituting for or diluting the legal duties of independent directors under applicable laws.

Admission and Qualification Membership

Membership of the Society shall be open to persons of not less than 25 years of age, having experience in finance, law, management, risk, corporate law, engineering, medicine, etc., who shall subscribe in writing to the Memorandum of Association and the Rules of the Society, which may be in force at the time of admission or at any other subsequent time. 

However, at its sole discretion, the Governing Body may relax the age criteria for an exceptionally outstanding candidate, subject to providing his/her parents’/guardian’s consent to be a member of the Society, as the case may be.

Application for Membership

1. Every candidate for membership shall apply in writing in the form of email. 

2. The application shall be duly signed by the applicant.

3. No person shall be a member unless he/she is selected by the Governing body whose decision shall be final and binding on the candidate. 

Subscriptions for Membership 

The Governing Body shall have absolute discretion to accept or refuse any person’s admission as a member of the Society without assigning any reason thereof.  

A member has to pay an annual subscription amount (non-refundable, non-adjustable, and non-transferable) as prescribed below at the time of his/her admission as a member in the Society. The annual subscription shall cover the period of twelve months commencing from the date of payment/receipt issued by the SID, whichever is later. For this purpose, here twelve months means a period of 365 days.  

Three types of Memberships 

a) Regular Member: Rs.1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) each per year. (For operational expenses, events, training, and digital platform maintenance).

b) Life Member: Rs. 5000/- (Rupees five thousand only) one time only. (For senior professionals who wish to remain associated permanently and enjoy lifetime benefits, voting rights, and recognition). 

c) Institutional Member: Rs.12,000/- (Rupees twelve thousand only) each per year with one representation per membership.

*Note: Goods & Service Tax (GST)/other taxes would be extra as and when applicable.
